I can't get rid of that smell. I don't want to just mask it, but get rid of it without spending a fortune to do so.

Clean the walls, floor, glass surfaces and also wash your curtains. To clean the walls and floors-use some baking soda and a little vinegar in the water-I know it sounds like it will smell bad, but it doesn't really. If you have carpet on the floor, sprinkle some baking soda on it and let it set awhile before vacuuming it up. For your curtains, wash them with some baking soda, and borax, then for your rinse cycle-add a little vinegar-The smell of vinegar WILL come out so you don't have to worry about your whole room smelling like vinegar. They will come out smelling nice and clean. Clean glass surfaces - (yes, here we go again-lol) -with vinegar and water in a spray bottle.
You can also put a little baking soda is small dishes and place them discreetly out of the way for a day or so..
Baking soda is a natural deodorizer.
If you would like a little stronger and perfume "smell" try placing some Bounce fabric softener sheets under furniture-and places hidden out of sight.

I quit smoking 10 months ago. Fortunately, we moved into a new house at about the same time, because the smell now drives me absolutely nuts. I smell it where even the non-smokers I know cannot. Here's what worked for me in the few areas of this house where someone had smoked:

1) Wash any linen or curtains with a detergent containing Febreze.
2) Spray down any fabric you cannot wash with Febreze, and get it outside for awhile, if at all possible.
3) Wash the walls. You'd be amazed at the amount of nicotine that sticks to them.
4) Wash down any glass surfaces like mirrors, windows, or television screens.
5) Dust wood with a strong polish.
6) Use a strong cleaner on hardwood floors or linoleum, use an odor remover powder on a carpet.
7) Open the window for awhile, if at all possible.
8) Put an air freshener with a scent you like in the room when you're done.

Good luck! Overall, what you need is time. The longer they've used it, the tougher it will be.

Go to Walmart and buy some TSP and wash down the walls shampoo carpets and wash curtains, pick up a product called OUT, it is made for pet stains and odors and spray carpet after you have cleaned it and it is dry. The OUT can also be purchased at Walmart, both products should cost you less than ten bucks, however the carpet shampooer will be about $20 or so and you can probably rent it from Walmart too!

The best idea I can think of is a whole lot of Febreeze and open all of the windows in the room. Use a fan in the room also. It may help. Good Luck :0)

It is extremely hard to get that smell out of a room. Try carpet fresheners, febreeze, air fresheners, plug ins, and even Bounce sheets are great. Also don't allow them to smoke in there anymore.

Most likely Febreze because that kills the smell not just masks it. I would try spraying it all over your carpet and furniture and then vacuuming because that really helps.
