Your country, music, food, and people. To the rest of the world Austrailia is a once in a life time experience. That's is what I'd want to learn about there at 16 or 60. The girl is very lucky indeed to have such a wonderful place to exchage too. I envy her...

I think "Boys" may be an interest of her - but not the main interest of course ... think about what were your interests when you were 16? But you can´t generalize - perhaps she loves sports, going to the beach, movies, going out, ...
Maybe it´s possible to ask her BEFORE she arrives what her hobbies/interests are - so you can plan activities.
On the first days after her arriving, I would show her the town, where she can find a cinema, where she can find places to meet other people of her age, where she can find sport facilities, or whatever she is interested in. I would also make a short sightseeing trip (not too long - otherwise she might be bored) so she gets to know your town.

Well, my first thought was - BOYS!!! However she might be a serious young woman, or a lesbian, so I am being very stereotyping and teenagerist.
Seriously though, I guess a French 16 year old girl will be interested in clothes and style. She will probably have very definite opinions on pop music.
Other than that, I think you're right to ask her what she likes and take it from there.
I hope it will be a great experience for you and your family.

he he this is not going to be a good idea lol..... with the 12 year old...
Yeah read teenage magazines especailly the problem pages...
THIS IS SAY IT AS IT IS JOEY WARTS AND ALL.
Oh this is funny
LOOK BE REALISTIC WHAT WERE YOU LIKE AT THAT AGE...?
Especially if away from home and off the leash...
And at that age did you want oldies around or kids?
If you are progressive and open minded then you =may make friends but don't try to control her especailly as probably used to more freedom. But be there to help her in mid teens. This is when kids need same sex parents the most but not in the same way as kids.
She may get drunk learning especailly as brits drink loads at that age. So be ready for that.
PARTY TIME!!!!!!!!!!! and this will be a problem with the 12 year old as she wont be able to come along or the 16 year old will want to be with older people her age... It does not mean she wont like the 12 year old...
Again how where you with a little pesky sister getting in the way when you wanted to be with yummy fit boys who were good kissers?
Boys parties, clubbing, music (you do have the advantage that unlike English folk the French should be a lot more mature where it comes to alcohol and less likely to get pissed or drugged up)
You have yourself a hormone bomb from a country with a very open attitude to sex...
BOYS, BOYS, BOYS and the english boys will LOOOOOVE a fit and sexy (especailly with all that healthy food)
Your only grace is she will be used to much fitter yummy boys back home as food healthier abd they will be more mature back home.
Biologically her needs for affection will be sky high
BUT SHE WILL NEED A MOTHER FIGURE TO HELP HER WITH THE BOYS AND WHEN THINGS DON'T GO RIGHT AND TO CRY TOO, and hug etc or rebel against.
So add L plates to her. She is still learning though should be way ahead of English girls and sophisticated.
She will want to go out clubbing and you may have a punk on your hands (thats good)
She is likely to go out to the pub, will be into music, and may sneak out.
Think... in four years this will be your daughter so think dry run... and good practice.
Rent out American Pie one and two and think the character NARDIA which should be the norm for someone of her age...
It does not make her bad... thats nature...
You never said where you are... That would be a major help please name the city and country.
Look into the whirl-y-gig if in London
http://www.whirl-y-gig.org.uk/
Its an all age nightclub rave that you and the 12 year old can join and its not babyish either... Like mini indoor festival. (if she is into dance music). If into rock, metal, punk, indie, alternative, goth etc...
The 12 year old won't get in but she should and those nightclubs are the safest and people are nice. So she will be ok. (can't say the same about the areas.
She will want to go out late.
Also take her to Camden town markets... the youthy place in London.
The London Eye
London Dungeon.
www.accessallareas.org
So be cool exchange mum and be prepared for having your hands full. And that she may not be a virgin... 16-17 is noraml age to loose it. That she is comming from a country with a far more relaxed and open minded mature attiude to sex. Its likely the 12 year old may want to emulate her and that she will be able to answer loads of sex realted and boy related questions which will be a good thing.
Ask her to help the twelve year old as your daughter will be able to ask her things she won't want to ask you.
Just don't expect to much of her...
She is a kid/teenager mid teens and starting fertility peak.
Whats important is these experiences go as well as can be...
Try and get her in with those her own age or older to look after her as London is a lot less safe then France in many areas and she may be from a nice area so less streetwise.
And don't get upset if you see her making out with a boy... Be a nice mum and ask her about the boy and be girlie... Thats what she needs...
Likewise may need help if she meets bad guys.
As said Honest...
This will be good and bad for you but a learning experience if you take that advice...
have fun.
PS interests may also stretch to alternatives to alcohol...
So think typical 16 year old, not a kid and not a fully mature adult...
Trouble but if you play it right despite chaos it could work out well if you are mautre about it and not over controlling but also not overly let her do what she likes...
This is the time of life where freedon is given on a long leash

Wait and see! Don't try to plan or look for what other people are in to. That doesn't matter. Just get to know her, she'll soon let you know what she likes (and definitely what she doesn't!)
You'll both enjoy it more that way.
