Could it be that humans see things in dualistic terms, that the nature of thought and perception is self/other, right /wrong, etc.
So, although there is an a subtle awareness of our being as all of one nature, our mind ,unable to reject itself as the cause of our discomfort ,rejects some of creation, and asserts other bits as sacred .
ie ; 'ultimately' even evil has it's place (no 'evil', no 'good'), and is of the same nature, but as long as we exist as dualistic beings, it is perfectly appropriate to limit evil and encourage good, just as one may discipline a child, whilst knowing they are essentially innocent, for the wellbeing of all.

I'm Native American and our cosmology teaches that everything is sacred, that it contains a medicine (a lesson to be learned), and that it should be protected for future generations. In order to understand it, one must be open to it.
Of course, my forefathers also had difficulty understanding why other people had a God that only showed up one day a week and in a particular building, rather than everywhere.

It is impossible. A religion like Christianity, for example, teaches that all things are made by God, and therefore all things are sacred. The schools of Christianity that teach that some things are sacred and others are not are dualistic. What makes something not sacred is its corruption, or misuse, that causes it to lose part of what God made it for. I see it like this: there is no actual opposite of light, only the absence of light, which is darkness. Likewise, there is no opposite of heat, merely absence of heat; this is cold. I feel that things in this world that have lost their sacredness, or purpose to which God meant them to be put, is what we call "evil".

Because indivduals declare the status of things as "sacred." I may declare this cup of tea I'm drinking sacred. However, the yogurt I am eating is not. It's that easy!
Think about why things are sacred and who told you they were, and the reasoning behind their sacred status.... do you still think they are "sacred" above other things?
In a way nothing is sacred and everything is sacred.

Sacred means set aside for God, so there you have your answer.
When He created the heavens and earth, everything was perfect, and in perfect harmony with Him. Then Adam and Eve allowed themselves to be seduced by the devil, and contaminated creation with original sin.
Fortunately God sent His only begotten Son to fix what was broken. We are living in the period between his first acsension to heaven, and His second coming, where the finishing touches will be put to His restoration work, and evil expunged from creation forever.

Some things are held sacred by people and people are flawed that is why all religions will be flawed. Although I am the nearest thing to perfect on this planet - the voices told me so :)

that is a good question and all things are equal really in that belief however since this is a religion issue, each religion delegates what is sacred and not and so if you believe each religion is dictated by a principal force then that force is designating what is sacred so can't be wrong.

Everything may be equal. But giving attention to certain meaningful things or places can indicate our desire to get closer to the divine principle, and hence provide an way to demonstrate that desire.
