Religion means so much to so many people. Some people kill other people in the name of religion and since religion means something totally different to me, I don't like to use the word religion. My experience is a walk through life with God. Oh, now I haven't let my hair grow and wear a white robe. My experience is a daily growth toward perfection. I will never reach perfection, but I like to think I am headed in that direction. I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a desire to be more like Him. That, if you will, is my religion.

'Religion' means a system of rules and duties I have to fulfil to be okay with that system's higher power. - Religion also makes me sick because to me it means bondage, having to perform to be ok with God.
It's the do vs. done principle Religion is all the things you have to Do to get acceptance and a Relationship with God is based on what Jesus has Done - you're already ok with God and you don't have to Do anything to get His love and forgiveness - (some people would say I'm wrong, but you Get His love first and then you realize He loves you too much to leave you the way you are and His love changes you, not the laws you had to live by in the 'Do' world of Religion or actions you want to do now, because of His love.)

If you mean organized religion, then it means Power, Control and Money. I am not a religious person! I am a very Spiritual person who meditates every day and enjoys life. I do not adhere to manmade dogma and doctrine and I believe in only 'ONE CREATOR', ONE UNIVERSAL LAW, 'ONE MIND-UNIVERSAL and this was the original teaching and it works for me. My soul is not lost and never has been! I have experienced AT-One-Ment with the Creator and I do not need anything else!

To me it means being able to practice my beliefs without the need to be confined to a brick building listening to someone who is no better or worse than I, tell me how I should think and act and what I should read and that I should give the "Church" money in order to be blessed.

It means being accepting of ALL fellow man, regardless of race, creed, color, belief, physical appearance or ability, sexual preference, etc.

It means not being condemned or condemning those whose view point differs from one another.

It means practicing it every day not just on Sundays (or Saturdays). It means not being told where your donations should go, but rather praising you for having donated at all. It means that donations are not only in the form of money to a Church but in all things that help others, no matter how small that help may be.

It means not claiming your Godliness to the public while you backstab your neighbor, relative, co-worker or disown your child who just announced they were gay.

It means having the faith within yourself to know that you can and will conduct yourself in a manner, every day, that is equal to the way in which you want others to act towards you.

It means not questioning others as to why they do not attend a Church, for those who practice everyday, could be far more faithful and Godly than a Church goer.

It means being an individual, with a mind of my own, a maturity to know right from wrong, the courage to believe in myself and the opportunity to practice my faith without expecting others to follow me while having the knowledge that I am a good person and I prove it every day.

If being Godly, religious and faithful means that I MUST sit in a pew once a week while in other countries religion sparks wars and uprisings, sparks arguments and condemnation in my own country/community/family, then I will remain who I am for I have yet to push my beliefs upon others, start arguments with others over my beliefs or conduct myself in any manner that was not in keeping with being a good, and faithful person.

With organized religion undergoing so many upheavals, I made the decision long ago to no longer practice as others wanted me to. Some Evangelists taking advantage of their followers, other members of the cloth performing sex acts with trusting members of their own congregations. Still others attempting to shame people into believing in what they believe and if they are unsuccessful, casting that person aside and having nothing more to do with them. Casting out children of their own flesh for not conforming to certain beliefs or having dared to be different.

So far I know no one who practices as I do, who has conducted themselves any worse or any better than one who practices organized religion. Some of us require the structure and familiarity of that building and leader, to help us remain Godly, others have an independent nature that requires neither direction nor structure...we simply follow our hearts and if organized Religion believes that God lives within our hearts then they should also beleive that there are those who do not need structure and organization to be as faithful, righteous and Godly as they.
