A part of my job is involves customer services and i never properly learnt that funny alphabet that customer services people use for spelling out names and addresses clearly e.g. 'a' for alpha 'b' for beta 'e' for echo.... does anyone know the complete list A-Z? it would be really helpful cos I'm too busy at work to find it on the net. I think too many times i've had to say 'b' for banana and 's' for spatula.... Best answer goes to the complete and correct listing. thx!

I believe your right. Not only is customer service almost non-existent in the big stores nowadays, but I just tried to get through to CS for our local water utility because I suspect an error on my last bill. After going through several minutes of a phone menu, I hung on the phone for 10 minutes waiting for a real live representative. I finally hung up without speaking to anyone. This seems to happen any time I call for service. It's so frustrating. I feel as though we are all being taken hostage by our utility companies with no recourse.

I would say unless you work for the military or similar organisation that insists on a particular format, "b as in banana", for example, is just fine. Everybody knows "banana" and it unmistakably begins with "b".
