Vacancy, emptiness, and absence. It symbolizes an open space where anything which fills that whiteness would bear to light all of its beauty and flaws.

White is the canvass from which all things ghastly and pristine may be painted upon. It is the absence of everything, leaving way for the purity of nothing.

Black, being its opposite, holds many possibilities within, hiding things that are seemingly evil, because evil stays hidden, playing on your fears. It is also nothingness, but a nothingness which hides the unknown.

White signifies the possibility of display, and when the absence of all things, are displayed, there is no possibility of any evil being hidden. Therefore, white, intrinsically, displays purity.
