It makes no difference really which type you use as most DVD players will take any format of DVD.
But generally, a +R disk should playback in any DVD player, where a -R might play, depending on the make of the disk and the type of dye used to make it.
Personally, I use -R most of the time and don't have any problems with my DVD player. Best policy is to stick to a good brand such as Ritek/RiDisc or DataWrite and you can't really go wrong.
Hope this helps
ps. Dual layer only means your burner can record on the larger 8.4Gb disks, nothing else!

Dvd - are better and easier because most DVD players play them, and alot more DVD recorders use them and theres only a few DVD recorders that let you record on to + discs!
I think the picture quality is a lot better on a + disc though
And apart from that, + discs are harder to get anywhere! The place i buy blank DVD's from has aboput 15 different kinds of MINUS DVD's, and only stock 1 kind of +disc's because not many people use them now....apparently! Me, ive got 2 DVD writers in my computer-one that is a DVD+ and the one i usually use that does both types!

There isn't a better of the two. The only problem I have ran into is some DVD players won't play DVD's burned on -r.
