Well, you are right in your assertion – but like you asked, it is something else too and not just books. It is the worldwide ignorance in general. People have always seen movies (like most recently Van Helsing), books, (by authors like Stroker), and every other aspect of human information – including stories, (ghost, Frankenstein, and otherwise) that all tell of how Romania, and Transylvania are home to vampires, ghouls, monsters, and every other figment of the imagination. So *most* take it as mere fact now.

Remember, ignorance is contagious – but knowledge is limited.

You can place a lot of the blame on Bram Stoker. It is also the stories of Vlad the Impaler and his comparisons to Stoker's Dracula that make people believe this.

Nope, you're correct. It's because that's where Dracula comes from. Everyone knows that.... and some ignorant ones think that Dracula comes from Pensylvania, United States, but that's a different story.

Our literature, movies etc., attribute all manner of starnge happenings to that part of the world. Dracula and werewolf legends seem to be the main culprits.

I think it's in part that book, but also because of Vlad the Impailer, considered to be the true vampire..he was real and from that area.
