If it's not charging, is it the battery? All the light indicators are working as usual. I leave it plugged in for an hour and it's only at 18%. What up??

Oh - and the little battery/plug indicator in the lower right of my window never says charging anymore - it's either battery indicator or plugged in.

The power supplies that Dell recalled were all made in Malaysia. If you check the serial number (DS/N) on the white tag near the bottom of the power supply and it does NOT start with ML, you are OK. Most will start with CN and were made in China.

If you have a Malaysian one, it still may not be the recalled model. Check the Dell website for additional information on which batch numbers were recalled. Of the 1400 we had at the site I support only 9 were recalled.

If your battery is not charging, or charging slowly, it is more likely that the battery itself is wearing on. They have about a 2 year life expectancy. If the power supply was bad, there would be no power going to the laptop and the battery would not charge at all. You probably need to start saving for a new battery.

It could be the battery indicator is faulty? You can check to see if it is charging by going to control panal and then power options and then turn on the power meter. If it is not charging it could be the battery ... how old is the battery? Batteries only can be charged 500-600 times, so the battery could be dying.

It is also possible that the charging system in the AC adapter is not longer functioning.

The recall was back in October 2004, so if you purchased the laptop in that period there could be a fire hazard issue.

The list is attached and you might be able to get Dell to send you a replacement if it was one of these AC adapters.

I would charge it overnight with the laptop turned off and see what happens. If it only paritally charges I suspect the battery is showing it's age.
