Depending on your printer, the Maintenance Program may have a CLEANING option. That might do the trick.
Go to the Control Panel, and pick PRINTERs, then right click on your printer and pick PROPERTIES. If there is a maintanence section, pick CLEANING or DEEP CLEANING as my Canon printer has.
It is also possible that your new cartridge has failed. Remove it, and try using a kleenex to wipe the electrical contacts clean. If none of this works, see if you can take it back to where you bought it.
STAPLES is very HASSLE FREE about returns and exchanges. They never charge a restocking fee.

sounds like it's time to pull out the rags, newpaper, q-tips and rubbing alcohol, along with a screwdriver and some paper towels.
very carefully take the printer apart and clean the printer especially close to where the cartridges sit.
don't forget to remember where the pieces came from. using the q-tips and rubbing alcohol, clean carefully. place the printer on top of the newspaper and have the paper towels ready to help keep everything clean. you may find a sponge where the cartridges sit. remove and rinse this sponge with running water until the water runs clear. let it dry thoroughly before replacing in the printer.
keep cleaning until there is no more signs of ink. let dry and replace parts. see if that helps.
if not you may need to get in touch with the manufacturer and see if they can recommend something from here. you mey need some new printer settings, or some repair at an authorized repari shop.
hope this helps.
good luck

It really depends upon the printer. The easy solution is try a bunch of print head cleanings. Get a diagnostic print out if possible to see how your other colours are functioning.
The cartridge being pretty new generally means nothing. Depending upon what model of printer and what you have been printing you may already be out of ink. Things like photographs and other graphically intense prints can use up to 10x the ink of regular printing, this drastically decreasing the life span of the cartridge.

Open your printer utilities and invoke the function to clean the print head. It sounds like it might be clogged.
Or try a new cartridge, if that fails.

goto printers in control panel, in the maintenance perform all the functions to clean nozzle and proper alignment. if it doesnt help, try cleaning the ink tanks from the bottom with a soft cotton cloth

You must clean the printer`s head.
Is your cartridge original or was it refilled? If it´s original, then it can be damaged. If it was refilled, maybe it was wrongly refilled. open your printer and see the cartridge is leaking (in case you refilled it). If it is take the cartridge out because it can damage your printer
