yes. the current trophy is 100% 24 carat gold.

the first world cup,or jules rimet trophy was also solid gold, but only 18 carat!

re answer from tony1903

you got all the sizes for the world cup correct, but that picture you saw has misled you.because of the problems with previous cup being stolen, they now always refer to it as 18carat when infact it,s def 24.

in the picture the cup in greece is actually a bronze replica which is 18 carat gold plated!! on the day of that story i was in brazil and the cup was still in it,s secure display unit in the brazilian football associations head office.because of security, the actual trophy is only ever either in the hands of the holders or FIFA take it to the world cup,in this case germany, the trophy that goes on tour is not the real McCoy!

tony 1903 is a bit easy to wind up,isn't he.
you bite too easy mate!!

Yes, it is made of gold.

The first one - the Jules Rimet Trophy - was also made of gold. Brazil got to keep it after the 1970 World Cup, because they had won it three times.

Unfortunately, that cup was later stolen in Brazil and never seen again - presumably it was melted down.

There are actually TWO world cups, the one that was stolen in the uk in 1966 was the original gold cup, however when police reaised that it may not be returned another bronze cup was cast to use 'just in case'. I believe the original is locked away somewhere safe, after that dog 'found' it

The FIFA World Cup Trophy is 36.8 centimetres (14.5 inches) high, 6,175 grammes (13.61 pounds) in weight, and made of solid, 18-carat gold. The base contains two layers of semi-precious malachite while the bottom of the trophy bears the engraved year and name of each finals winner since 1974.
