No, although he is determined and on good form at the moment he will be forced to hang back at times as there is no holding midfielder. Lampard holds the record for the most shots in this tournament and, although he has not found the goal, he continues to push forward every chance he gets. This leaves Gerrard holding the midfield. If Sven put Carrick in behind the midfield and left Crouch out of the line up with only Rooney up front, it would allow Lampard and Gerrard to both push up without leaving Beckham and Cole to do all the work. But as it stands at the moment Rooney looks fit and determined so he will clock up some goals and may even get the highest goalscorer of the tournament. Let's hope so.

Unless Rooney rediscovers his top form then yes.Gerrard is by far the best midfielder in the England team and quite possibly in the world.People compare him to Lampard. But while Lampard plays in comfort zone with his Chelsea mercenaries,Gerrard works his heart out, covers every inch of the football pitch and inspires his less glamouress team to actually win the trophies that can't be bought.Lampard is a good player and would walk into virtually any teams first eleven in the world. But he's not in Gerrards league.

yea i think so... Rooney hasn't done much and did you see when he was substituted for Gerrard on Tuesday? So bloody grumpy that he was unable to score and that J. Cole did.
Since Owen is out i reckon Gerrard will be top scorer for England were relying on three strikers and he will drop goals like he's dropping pennies lol.
Come on England!!

I think Lampard will take over from him.Because he plays in attacking role rather than the defensive one of Gerrard,

I think he will as he is always in the right place at the right. The whole game changes when he's on the pitch. I think he should be captain as he gets the players going.

Yes!

He is our best player by far. When he defends he is awesome, when he attacks he is awesome.

He will score even more if (I dont care if England don't win the world cup cos it ain't my country plus I'm getting £5M anyway) Erikson plays him in his proper position.
