Interracial marriages will always be expose to a bit of racism. i am a Mexican married to a Qatari living in Qatar and you can't help the comments from time to time or the jokes. Most of my friends have interracial marriages. a lot of them marries to Germans. I never heard of any of them been victimize due to their ethnicity (Mexican, Peru ans, Brazilians, Vietnamese) .
Specially after the world cup an event this big really opens the eyes of the society to other cultures and people I think you don't have anything to worry about as long as you don't walk at night in dark alleys.

There are hate groups here...sure...but there are so many laws that benefit minorities in the way of employment and protection...this is really the place to be...

My neighborhood is so wonderfully diverse...like any small town street in mid-west america...to the left She's from North Korea, to the right the daughter in law is Japanese, two doors down she's Canadian and he's black american...across the street, polish, czech, Indian (Hindu), and Iraqi(Muslim)...
I'm an American and a Gulf War vet...
...we all talk about world events and we seem to be so far away from what you hear and see in the media.

If your career endeavors bring you to Germany, i think you will find your fiance is grossly mistaken over his perception of Euro-racism and how it works.

In the 60s...part of the German post war reconstruction act included
opening jobs to immigrants for very low wages - jobs no one else chose to do. Sound familiar??
yes terrible jobs like sorting garbage, cleaning portajohns, washing windows of sky scrapers....

well...a group particular well suited to any labor at all was a group in current impoverished conditions and used to living communally...Turkish familys came into germany in droves...

Well...by the late 80s and early 90s...their hard work ethic, frugal and simple lifestyle, combimed with scrupulous financial bookkeeping...made many families very affluent...
the laws haven't changed and it's much easier for a foreigner to get a job...than it is the common white german kid.

Germany is faced with a HUGE problem - UN employment.
It's hard to find a job...guess who keeps coming up with work?
That's right...the immigrants...predominantly Turks.

yeah...they face a lot of hatred...they're taking jobs some people are now desparate to take. They don't understand the culture...so they live as they would in their homeland...which is not always social nor acceptable to most germans...

there's conflict...there...

I wouldn't say it's remotely analogous to the US...nor Australia...
but it's there...

The ones that avoid trouble are usually the ones doing their best to assimilate into society...
The ones that face trouble are the ones that demand to have considerations for their lifestyle made available ... you've seen Frances battle with the wearing of head scarfs in school...??
That battle isn't waged here...at my childrens school...students won't wear head scarfs your they won't go to school...parents can comply or go home...many call that rascism...but most don't bite the hand that feeds them.

What do you mean "at the moment?" I think racisim can be traced back in Germany history, and it still exists. However, it's a lot more obvious in the former East Germany though. Yet, this does NOT mean that ALL Germans are racists. I've met a few who are really great people, and they are definitely NOT racists in any way.
