If your laptop has a VGA port than it should prove no problem. (VGA prot should look like this:

15 holes on 3 rows
and it's usually blue or black)

You might have to tell the laptop that it should use the external output(usually done with Fn+F3 or Fn+F4)
)

If this doesn't work send me a messange and I'll try to help

Check on the back of the laptop for a 15-pin VGA output connector. If there is one then you can use a standard VGA cable to connect the laptop to an external monitor.

Once an external monitor is connected you will need to tell your laptop to send its display to the external monitor instead of (or in addition to if you want) its LCD screen. Usually this is done by holding the Fn (function) key and pressing the F5 key. The F5 key is normally labelled with little symbols representing a computer and a screen in this case.

Yes you can dude!

Providing the laptop has a VGA connector on it somewhere, there is no issue hooking it up to a monitor.

However, if you get no display on the monitor, check the keyboard for a "function" button and a marking under one of the keys (usually numeric keys) which says "LCD/CRT". Hold in the Function key while pressing that key and the screen should show on the monitor.

Nothing wrong with putting an old horse to work (heh)

Hope this helps :)

Yes, you can use an external monitor to your laptop by using a cable to connect to a serial port (usually blue color with 15 pins). Make sure you have the correct cable before you hookup to the external monitor.

Good Luck!

it sounds like your lcd screen has lost its brightness due to age, laptops only have a life of bettween 5 to 10 years so you havent done too bad, like the other answers have said,it would cost you more to fix it than replace it and from the age of it ,its probally only a pentium 2 or 3
invest in a new one ,go to dabs.com at http://www.dabs.com/productlist.aspx?&NavigationKey=11012&CategorySelectedId=11012&PageMode=1 , there are some brilliant deals there and they do some exccelent i-pod accesories aswell
good luck

If it has a VGA-Out or DVI-Out (unlikely that a 6-year old mointor has DVI-out), then go ahead and plug it into your monitor. If it supports S-Video or Composite, then you could output it to a TV or a newer monitor with support for multiple sources.

Does it have a viideo card? Well if it does then you can connect it to a television set or screen, IF the only part broken is the screen.

if it is only the screen not the video card you should have outs on it to connect to a monitor.
