Usually the more original and bizarre the ad, the better it sticks especially if it uses humour or shock tactics eg x box, irn bru, tango. Also ads with long running story lines like BT, Goldblend and OXO. The right music can make an advert and levi's have a particularly good knack of picking the right tune. The best thing to do would be to get in touch with channel 4 because their 100 greatest adverts programme was voted for by the Great British public and would give you a clear indication of the kind of ads that stick in our minds so much that we remember them for years to come. The Yorkie 'it's not for girls' ad was the cleverest campaign for a long time as it was simple enough to stick and made every woman in the country go out and buy Yorkies. My favourite ad at the moment is the sony one with the bouncy ballsand its tango rip off (although the original was a great advert, I had no idea what it was selling for weeks) Good Luck with you're dissertation.

I really like humour, if an advert makes me laugh, I'll pay more attention and watch is closely the next time it is on.
I also like to be moved, depending on the product.. Something that makes me think or touches the heart.
My all-time fave ad is that one with the car (oops, can't remeber what model!) - the one where the guys are sat in a bar and they say:
"I saw it too, on the mountain - then it was gone" (or something along those lines - I live in Spain, so I'm watching it in Spanish!
That one sort of scared me, and made me watch to find out what they were advertising. Unfortunately, I can't afford a car, but if I could, that would have to be the one. It gives me the impression of being a cool, sleek vehicle!

Humour! And genuine, funny and provocative humour - not the pathetic, "feel good" kind.
Originality...not the same old.
- By extension...I get sick to death of ads that refer to a workplace as "the office" all the time...or that assume we all work Monday - Friday...my job is at the controls of a plane, any day of the week - not "the office!"
Realism...do you get sick of the ads that always show a spotless, modern house where the family eat breakfast overlooking a beautiful bay?
Music...I have more attraction to ads that use heavy rock music - not pop or classical stuff.

Something that doesn't rely upon a cheap gimmick, or annoying music (ocado.com ads on the radio in London, GRRRRRR....)
And ad with humour is always good, and ads that use the strength of the brand instead of other distractions. Good ads are clever and innovative, like: Levis Jeans, John Smiths, Strongbow, Stella Artois, Guinness (Hmmm, I don't drink, but its funny how all the alcohol ads are incredibly good) and the ads for Hamlets cigars were always great too. (I don't smoke either!!) Honda have fantastic ad campaigns, especially the one for the new Civic.

These days all the television adverts are completely stupid and they are not giving the required message to the viewers some times.

Usually the annoying ones work as they are remembered. Even ones that make you laugh at them becasue they seem so bad are clever as you remember them. I remember one from school over ten years ago, we all laughed at it but I still remember the whole of the song on it and what it was advertising.
