I went up in the attic and noticed ice on the pipe coming from the outside unit. Why is this and what do I do?

Ok now that all the others have given you nothing...

find your thermostate and turn the system switch to off. then turn the fan switch to on (not auto). this will defrost your evaporator (inside part). Let this run 1 hr after you notice no more ice/frost on the lines.

While it is defrosting, you need to find you air filter (in the ducting somewhere before the evaporator) and clean replace it. if you don't have a filter you will need to get your evaporator cleaned.

See if this helps.

It is called condensation and the pipe is froze so you might have to get a repairman out there because there might be something wrong with your unit.
