I understand what you're saying. Americans did help the Allies win WWII and if Hitler would've won, the entire world would be speaking German. It was 60 years ago and those who did fight are mostly dead.
So those who say ' it hadn't have been for us you would be speaking german by now' have no right to say that 'cuz they weren't the ones there doing the fighting.

Ha, the 'Huns'..methinks your oneof us English :P Well, the Americans did help us in Britain a ton, with the Lend-lease program (tanks and guns for free etc) and without the american military to eventually back us up, an invasion of western europe from the British isles would have been all but impossible. We did push the Germans back at the blitz however, so i dunno..maybe we would have been forced to come to an 'understanding' with hitler..or maybe the russians would have pushed the germans all the way back and out the other end of germany..who knows. Its old hat now, 60 years gone, we should never forget it but not mull it over all thetime as well.

I dont think so cos the US had only a small role in bringing the war 2 an end.

The greater role was by Russians whom the Germans feared the most.

Next to it was the role of Britain.

Americans only worsened the situation in the end by using Atom Bombs after the War had actually got over.

This was an intelligent American ploy to show the world that they were bringing the war 2 and end cos they didnt get any big creditable role to play when the real fight was going on in Europe.

The misuse of the nuclear weapons defintely gave a supremacy to US along with the USSR in the post war period.

Historically speaking, country A conquers country B. Country B is completely razed and the inhabitants killed or bound to slavery. Therefore the remaining people of country B would learn the language of conquering country A. People from Europe arrived in North America, decided it was a nice place to live and began the trek west conquering any tribe of any nation along the way. By 1900, native clothing, speach, spiritual rituals, etc. were illegal. Does any of this sound familiar? The answer to your question is buried with the sixty million native americans that perished after we got here. Conquerers rule EVEYTHING including language. Look it up and good luck.

Roostermanforever... America got involved in WWII because of the attack on Pearl Harbor. We were trying to stay neutral. There were plenty of American boys who went to Europe to help fight years before the U.S. got involved.
As far as the statement "we'd all be speaking German right now..." it's just a reminder of what we went through as a country during that time and to be thankful how lucky we are to be in free and democratic society.

Not many "loud" Americans say that sort of thing to me. Most say things like, "if you guys had given up, even the Canadians would be speaking RUSSIAN". Why do you want to stir things up? What will you achieve? My own opinion, is that for someone of seriously low intellect you can spell reasonably well, did someone show you how to use the (English as spoken in America) spell checker?.

you got it right' loud mouths'is what they are, just look at all the hollywood movies americans won everything ,but nothing could be farther from the truth,as in both world wars they came in when it was all over,(but we did need their supplies)the only reason they came in was because they knew that if britain finally gave in (but the germans would have to kill everyone)america would be easy to take ,and yes they would be speaking german

Actually they are wrong! If it hadn't been for the Soviets we would have speaking German now!
The soviet Union almost by itself destroyed the German Army! America and UK landed in Europe only in 1944.
