what does GA and GF mean in the online scoreboards i see for the fifa worldcup. And also, how do we select the winning teams in the group? Is it only by the diffrence of goals compared to the other teams in the group? Thanks

GA and GF stand for "Goals Against" (ie, goals a team has conceded) and "Goals For" (ie, goals a team has scored) then the difference between them is taken as a measure of performance, along with the points they earn for winning or drawing a match. This measure is known as Goal Difference, and is only a factor to be considered if 2 or more teams are tying for points. For example, if Team A had won the group, but teams B and C were tied for second place, with the same amount of points, the team with the greatest goal difference would go through to the next stage. I hope that answers your question :)

okay, the GA is Goals Against and GF is Goals For. In other words, GA is the total goals the team get to put in against the other teams. GF is the total goals the team lost.

Each winning team will get three point in the group. If the game is draw, then both team will get one point. Since each group contains 4 teams and so each team will play three matches. So, the highest possible points will be 9 and zero will be lowest they can go.

Each group will have two teams advance to the next group based on the total points the teams receive. IF a team wins all three games, then she will get 9 points. If a team loses all three games, then no points will be given. If a team draws on all three games, she wil get three points only.

That means, if a team wins two games in the group, she will get 6 points in total (3 points x 2) and this will allow them to advance to the next group.

If there are two teams have the same points, then the GA scores will be used to determine who is the actual winner in the group.

So, each group will have a winning team and runner up. BOth of them get to advance to next around.

However, from Round of 16 onward, each game will be a win or go home game.
