It depends on the cup--most cup handles are on the left side of the cup (your right side). (oh---and on the outside)

the handle is placed on the out side of the drinking vessel. this is to allow for the ease of handling whilst the mug contains a fluid. this handle must be in a perfectly horizontal direction other wise the mugs contents will spill out and could cause serious injury.

I think you already know the answer, and this is a partial trick question. Still...
The handedness of a cup/mug is determined by the image (picture, logo) on one of its sides. If the image faces outwards when the 'drinker' holds the mug in his/her right hand, then the mug is right-handed. Opposite case for a left-handed mug.
If you ever order custom-printed coffee mugs, the printer would ask if you wanted right- or left-handed (and this is how I discovered this bit of trivia).
