the past experineces you have certainly influence who you are, but the influence of the present and how you use the experiences is up to you. you can overcome anything in the past with will and intelligence. you always have free will. the past is dead. the future is uncertain. all that exists is the present so make the most of it. the decisions you make in the present and the actions you take, limit the future and influence it, but do not totally decide it. You can always change what happens by choice and effort and will.

Don't u think that is too pessimistic? Things u did wrong in the past wouldn't make u a bad guy in future, and things u did right (in the past) also wouldn't make u a better person in the future. That is totally no related. ATTITUDE and your MORAL is the key.

I don't like to think about the past..........but unfortunately, it does affect who we are. Every rotten thing my messed up parents did to me .. in the most dsfunctional family I could imagine... has affected me.........even if I try to not think about it all. Then top that with the sick abuse of my ex-husband....... and yeah, it affects a person. And these messed up people don't even care what they did to my life..... so, life goes on..........but I will never forgive OR forget.......... and the will be judged by God.

Every thing you do in life affects the rest of your life. You would not be the person you are today if you hadn't made the choices you made, done the things you did and learned the things you've learned.

I agree with you totally.

I think what we had done in our past is some times being our teacher of our future because we get many lession from our past and we also get more comfort way from pasts difficulty way.

Well, it is true that without a past we don't have a future, but I disagree that our past makes us who we are in certain cases. people change and become better or worse - but being on the brighter side, we all have made mistakes in our lives, but we learn from them, fix ourselves and move on to become better people. so yes, i past makes us who we are, but it is what we learn from that past that determines the type of person we've become.

I agree, It is all the people and events that shape who we are, and who we are going to be. It reflects in our mannerisms, speech patterns, and attitudes towards things.
