this happens to me on many official letters i clearly state Mrs and i get Ms it is so annoying it shows total lack of respect that they dont care how you want to be addressed.
it is a case of political correctness
you cant tell if a man is married or not by his title
a man is Mr whetheror not he is married
you can tell if a woman is married or not by the title Miss or Mrs
some women object to this so came up with Ms
unfortunatly the rest of are stuck with it.

I have experienced that myself and i can completely empathise with how angry it makes u feel. I questioned one such response and even went directly back to the company that i had my interview with to challenge them..
Although i felt i was the right person for the job in question, it was purely that i had lack of experience in shorthand even though i had never used it before but i did know how to!! The company when put on the spot told me they had addressed my letter as Miss even though i was a mrs as a pure mistake made by the secretary that had been asked to type these 'rejection' letters.
I thought yes what a cop out a pack of lies they just don't care being let down is enough but to insult you by not writing to you with the correct title is appauling. It's just lack of care-- we are just numbers to them not people wanting to make an honest living.

I hate being called a Ms too and have always been a Miss (so far, getting married soon!). It is just assumed now that if not a Mrs you are a Ms, which I hate! Men just don't seem to understand it!

Well I'm a girl and I was more p*ssed when I was once addressed as 'Mr'!
I don't mind being called 'Ms' though and I address a female I don't know as Ms for the simple reason that I might address as her as Miss and she may really be a Mrs and she may be p*ssed off that I assumed she wasn't (does that make sense?!)
However, given you have openly addressed yourself as Miss and they address you as Ms then that is wrong.

Miss is a title of an unmarried woman or girl.
Ms. is a title used before the name of a woman to avoid indicating whether she is married or not.
Where it is undesirable or irrelevant to distinguish between married and unmarried women or where a woman's marital status is not known.
So relax, at least they did not indicate that you are Mrs xxxx

It's most likely that they simply don't care. If they don't hire you, they'll hire someone else, so it doesn't make a difference to them whether or not they piss you off.
