well lets just cut to the chase , im an athiest , now ive had many arguments with these ignorant christians (which i used to be for a good portion of my life ,and i regret it every day)
now the thing is, they say god is "real" and we should have "faith" cause thats the only way you can belive in him .....now what gets me mad is that they use the word faith like it makes this thing they call god real .... i mean i can have faith in santa but that dosent make him real .....but that now leads to my main question
what is real , what makes something real
now to me i think for somethg to be real , there must be evidence that it is there so to speak , for me to think somethin is real i must be able to see it , smell it , hear it , or feel it ( i dont want to see anyone sayin "oh but what about air , so that isnt real" , yes offcourse air is real because there is evidence for it , it can be seen it can be felt ........but anyways what do you guys think , am i wrong or what ...

Is anything real!? How do we know something is real.. because our senses tell us so? How can we trust them!? They lie! They have been deceived before so how do I know they are not being deceived right now? When I dream while sleeping things seem real, but then I wake up and say "it wasn't real." How can I be sure I won't wake up somewhere else and realize that this is a dream right now? That I'm not really typing this.... this keyboard isn't really here... there is no way to know.
(I used to say, "Well, my senses are all I have, so I have to trust them." But just because they are the best thing available, doesn't make them right!)

The def is basically believing in something you cant see or touch or hear.I believe the bible says somethin like "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen".Is faith real? For something physical, what makes it real is its existence. For a concept, perhaps what could be defined as real is just for someone to believe it.Existential Angst.Aint it wonderful.

You've answered the question yourself. Real is what's inside your head. You feel, see, smell, hear it in your mind. There are as many realities as there are minds. God is real for those with faith. Like you I dabbled in Christianity once, after losing my husband. I knew I was using it as a crutch. I'm over it now. Jesus, 'the man' was real. Christianity is not real for me, because it is the teachings of Jesus bound up in dogma, and has nothing to do with the man, who was just a social thinker and a scholar. To question things, and to think ,is to keep your mind real. To give up, is to lose all sense of reality!

I guess the easiest way to explain it is the reality is in the eyes of the beholder, what is real to some people is fantasy to others. Because christians are brainwashed into thinking there is a god, makes god real to them. something is real when there is evidence of existence, even if that evidence is fabricated in their own mind.

REAL is only what you do not deny. A blind an knows no images, a deaf man no sounds etc.REAL is different for every person. So real is only a perspective. It is only a way to interpret the world we see around. The knowledge of the truth is the only way to define an universal reality an undeniable one.

The existence of a certain object or person does not depend on whether we believe in it or not. For example, either Santa Clause exists or he doesn't exist, but neither would change regardless of whether we believe in it or not. Likewise there are people who do not believe in God, and there are people who do, but this does not change the fact whether God exist. If He truly exists, whether we believe in Him or not will not have any impact on His existence. Many things cannot be seen with the naked eye, but we believe in its existence due to its influence on our lives. Likewise with the concept of God.

religion is a belief..and what you believe in.If you believe in the easter bunny or santa claus.. its a belief.I feel like it is all a book of stories to keep us all in line.like telling your kids that the boogieman will get you if you don't go to sleep.
we won't be around to see it but i bet you 2000 yrs from now someone will believe that Spiderman and Superman were prophets.
personally i havent seen them digging up jesus bones...but i have seen proof of cavemen...so if i can see it then i'll believe it.

The Being which exists independent of the nothingness necessary for the definition of its existence makes it "real".
Even illusion is real as independent of actual reality.
