Men are XY, women are XX, right? The only genetic difference between men and women is whether they have a Y sex chromosome or not. Sexual characteristics such as genitals and breasts are encoded on the X and Y chromosomes, but NOT NIPPLES. Nipple genes are not on the X or Y chromosomes so we all have them. Women have genes in their XX genome to build mammary glands beneath their nipples -- men don't.

Well, men are mammals, and female mammals have nipples (unless they are a platypus or echidna). Nipples are strongly selected FOR, in females, and not selected AGAINST, in males. The basic mammal template is therefore used.
In fact, as others mentioned, they can bring pleasure to a male owner; not just to females that have them!

I would think that it is due to the fact that all embryos start off as female, then later the genes change to male or stay female.
