Expensive brands are sometimes no different than cheaper ones. The only difference is the brand and the way it's marketed. I used to buy expensive creams and cosmetics for fear that using cheap ones may ruin my skin. However, when I tried a cheaper brand I found nothing different. I think the trick here is not choosing between what is cheaper or expensive, but what suits your skin. Try out different brands and you'll find something that would be good for you.
I have the same problem as yours. T-Zone and large pores. I use Neutrogena's pore reducing and oil control line. Quite effective. Good luck!

Many of them are made in the same places anyway. Some are more expensive because the company's are trying to recoup some of the money invested in revolutionary products, but but then eventually the less expensive brands catch on and produce equally good products. Try Liz earle skin repair for light skin or clinique dramatically different - the gel version. At the moment I amusuing Johnson hoilday sun for the face for a fiver. and olay touch is good too, So test some and you will find your mirical cream!

i don't think the price matters it's what works best for you. I use clarins and don't think it's too expensive but it's the only brand i find that works best. i use their toner and moisturiser but use simple cleanser and facial wash. so you can save money that way. the moisturiser is the thing and i find that the quality of more costly products is higher and therefore more effective. i would say though that it's not suitable for younger skin. I started using it from age 38.

Use a cheap one - the expensive ones tend to justify their high prices by including fancy sounding chemicals that impress the easily misled but don't actually penetrate your skin. I have normal skin and I use Nivea Soft intensive moisturising cream and cheap cleansers from Boots - and my skin is very youthful and blemish-free. All you really need is a good moisturiser and a good cleansing regime - you don't need to spend much money, and the same goes for shampoos.

Cheap - 9 times out of 10 they are made by a leading company, with just the stores own label stuck on the outside.

I think it really depends on any particular issues you have with your skin. I use Dermlogica clay cleansers as otherwise I would break out into spots, but am OK to use Olay moisturiser (the one for blemishes). The Dermalogica isn't cheap but I would say that a £25 bottle lasts me and my boyfriend about 4 months.
So I think you just have to try what works for you and not feel bound to necessarily buy only one brand.

I think sometimes the more expensive stuff does work better. (like fake tan)
I didnt think expensive make up made a difference....then i used Lancome Juicy Tubes....much better!
Basically, change your face cream everytime you get to the end of a tub. Buy a cheaper one, then next time try a posh one.
When it comes to anti wrinkle and under eye creams, the expensive ones DO work better

Cheap and cheerful works for me, I usually find the more expensive creams have the exact same ingredients for more than double the price, it's just the fancy jar and the brand name you end up paying for.

I prefer to buy expensive face creams since it's my face and i'd rather not take chances with it. Plus I think expensive creams smell better. :) I believe you pay for what you get.
I'd recommend Kiehl's blue moisturiser (if you have acne problem) and Clarins multi-active day cream-gel for T-zone face.
