Personally as a 40yo woman i believe that it is possible to make whatever is in your heart to happen at whatever age.
As one gets older and sheds the 'bimbo' image placed in other peoples minds and gains wisdom and other insights in their place that an older person has more to offer than when they were younger
The main hurdle isn't what you can accomplish - it has more to do with other people's attitudes about who THEY expect to be doing stuff. I do wonder if the bias towards younger people has more to do with 'molding' others to the company rather than anything to do with enhancing what people actually bring to the workforce.
I feel that having a family to be responsible for has certainly given me invaluable insights that the workplace could never have given me - but that could enhance the workforce too.
But then again i could start my own business and bypass those bigots who only want someone with 15 years experience before the age of 26 anyway.

Yes, you`re right. Women at 40 something, at least in my country (Bosnia) are permanently unemployed! This is a huge problem, not just here but everywhere and some things should systematically change in our society. If a woman divorces her husband and has no means for educating, dressing and feeding her kids(and she`s over 40), then she is in BIG trouble. Basically, there should be some employing initiative particularly for this demographic type.

Yes. there are quite of few women out there that get into business after 40 or even 50. Most of them were busy raising kids or their husband didn't want them working
