It can lead to a conclusion, but not within a half hour as modern TV shows do.
It helps you to think by sharing with you the thoughts of other thinkers.
also you can go beyond what they already covered into new areas rather than re-inventing the wheel.
It exercises a part of your brain that gets ignored. it is the part that makes you better than an animal.
Many practical effects have come from philosophers. Karl Marx was such a man and he had a big inlfuence on the practical world.
It does not kill time. it uses time. it leads to intelligence, understanding and wisdom. It can give great comfort to those worried about what the meaning of life is.

I am going to keep this short and sweet. No offense to Plato and the mile long answer.
Philosophy is, simply stated, an opportunity to look at simple things in a convoluted and complicated manner. It is a little like trying to drink a glass of water while standing on your head through a coffee stirring straw. It is difficult, mostly meaningless and will probably give you a headache.
However, it can also give you a great sense of accomplishment and challenge you to think and do more difficult and meaningful things.
The brain is a like a muscle, if you don't give it a workout regularly it gets slow, weak and flabby.

The significance of philosophy is to understand the nature of a human’s value system and the capacity of their loyalty to such systems in context of the processing of the inner mind. It's important to know how an individual perceives the world along with the associations of his spiritual, physical, and mental involvement. Philosophy and belief are closely related. Belief is like, "There's only one God." Philosophy divides itself from belief when ideas are common to all, like love, beauty, and truth. Interestingly philosophy reaches into many disciplines of study.
The source for philosophy is the self, and from others. Philosophy may be a study of how people perceive ideas and their ability to assimilate various concepts while keeping the ideas of others in context. The questions we face, "Is our philosophy free?" or “Are we living like programmed robots, controlled by the philosophy of others?”
Philosophy is much, much more than may be conveyed here. These are only a few words, but hopefully they may inspire a lifetime of learning about philosophy.

Philosophy is a field of study that includes diverse subfields such as aesthetics, epistemology, ethics, logic, and metaphysics, in which people ask questions such as whether God exists, what is the nature of reality, whether knowledge is possible, and what makes actions right or wrong. The fundamental method of philosophy is the use of reasoning to evaluate arguments concerning these questions. However, the exact scope and methodology of philosophy is not rigid. What counts as philosophy is itself debated, and it varies across philosophical traditions.

Philosophy does not contain itself inside equations or rules. Logic is the one thing that governs the thoughts of the Philosophers. In Philosophy you can see the pure form of logic. They are not intolerant of creativity and imagination. In Philosophy i find a new world a world that could be the real one in the place of the one I accept as real

Hmm, I wish to study it as well, so now, let me check why...
For: it will never actually bore you, because you´ll always ask yourself new things; it will make you analytical; it will make you aware of the things and wonders around you; and if you naturally like it...studying it will be fun
Against: endless thinking, and maybe, there´s no answer; practically...it won´t help you make pancakes; losing precious amounts of time wondering about things, instead of maybe living them.
I guess, it just depends on who you are. There are thinkers and there are doers...I´m a thinker, inspiring others to do, I will hold up my fair share of doing, but I will always be a thinker, you just have to ask yourself:¨What am I?¨

When you study philosophy, you are learning how to argue and persuade someone, you are learning how people think, and you are learning to make a decision.
These are very important skills, especailly in politics and law. A good lawyer can logically construct and present an argument designed to sway someone in thier favor. A politician needs to be able to do the same thing.
These skills are also helpful when trying to make your own decicions. Knowing how someone can persuade you can help you to see past it to what things are truely important.

Some times we think why we are ? but I think we came to just time pass if we can do some thing which give plazure to others then it's useful. to get more percentage of human who likes the things with out getting any disadvantages is our goal behind that. and that's why we always try to understand what other would like to and that's why we divert to think about philosophy.

basically philosophy is asking why?
if you know something then you wouldn't even bother asking about it right?
ever noticed when we were little, we were so fascinated with everything around us because we are encountering them for the 1st time, as we grow older, we get to know a lot and come across with the things that we once were fascinated on constantly, then we eventually loose interest in them because they are already boring us. Boredom in a lot things makes us stop asking why
To wrap it all up
For us not to loose interest in everything we do, or on life itself, we should never stop asking why
