Private Investigators are doing their jobs and are protected by law so long as they comply with the law. They can watch you so long as they do not enter your property to do so.

And there is nothing you can do about it.

Calling the police would be a waste of time, unless they are on your property, and assaulting them will only result in you going to jail.

Additional:

You can call the police to have them verify the person is a licensed private investigator, but, even if they are not, there is no law that prevents a person from watching you so long as they do not violate other laws while doing so.

I would act like I didn't know he was following/investigating me. Instead, I would make him earn his money and make him follow me all over the place and do nothing suspicious. Get on the bus, take a subway - just take a drive. Go no place in particular - but make him follow you where you go. Just don't give him the opportunity to get evidence about what you are suspected of doing. If you haven't done anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about.

I wouldnt harm him or any of his property, but I would certainly confront him and call the police for invasion of privacy. Try to detain him until the police get there. Unfortunately a lot of the private investigators are former policemen so they know how to duck and run for cover.

Well, think hard. if you don't commit any wrong doing just ignore it. Who knows, perhaps, you are going to receive something, like money from old dying individual person that doesn't have relative/s. they just want to know your status of living if you are deserving. Furthermore, try to bribe the investigator and ask why you are subject for investigation.

Legally as long as they are filming you in a public place, there is nothing much you can do about it other than approaching him to make it known to him that you're aware of he is doing. Everything else it's up to him and you really shouldn't get yourself into trouble by using violence.

If you're in a public place there's not much you can do, if they're trespassing call the police.

Don't do anything that would get yourself into trouble - violence or damaging equipment. Approach and see if he needs help. If not, let him know that you don't appreciate being stalked.
