I don't understand why some people are still focusing on all the wrong things to classify a person. Ethnic origin or skin color does not make the person.
However, sometimes many people limit themselves because of they're ethnicity, skin color or physical appearance. These people are all dealing with their own personal insecurities.
Just like the person who says, "I don't want to be... why would anyone want to be... I'm ... and I'm proud of being..."
We've got to move away from the packaging mentality mind set and move towards a self developed personally accomplishment driven way of thinking. "Doors will open" for this type of person because they are not limited by hatred and their own deep seeded insecurities.
An important side note - although this way of thinking is available to any type of person, personal accomplishments and advancements in society may be limited by the location in which that person lives.
In the past many US groups, with all types of physical appearances have been limited in the past -- but this has changed and it will continue to change. Although with comments like, "I just don't understand why someone would wanna be white," it makes you wonder if a positive change will ever completely take hold.
Good Luck.
There is but one Race, it is the Human Race, and all the others are just plain animals. (Zimmer, John. 2006)

Well, I'm not White, but I'm also not a hypocrite. I wouldn't want to be White solely to be more popular with Whites, but to feel better about myself, whether or not that would be the result. To me, it seems that every country has some Whites within it, which means that if you're White, you can fit into tons and tons and tons of different cultures and countries. Take for example: You could go to Brazil, Russia, Germany, Austria, England, Norway, Sweden, and on and on, and possibly blend right in! Me? I'm Asian, I kinda hate myself sometimes. It's just not that fun. Sometimes feel funny just walking along, because I know I stand out as different. Seriously.

I am white. I can say that I have heard alot of folks say they would want to be BLACK. Myself, I would never want to be black.
I like my blonde hair and blue eyes. My skin is a lovely pearly white. The others only want to change to black, to get all the free-bees that are offered to them. You know like housing and food stamps, and the extra points on the tests the city gives??
Nope, I am a White Woman, and I am also very proud of my race.
No matter anyway, we can't change who we are... unless you are
Michael Jackson. There's a real weird dude for you.

Well, I'm a white woman, and sometimes, I think I'd want to be a black woman. I think it's just for the want of knowing what it would be like to be of a different race, not just black or white. Don't think she meant any dis- respect to her race.

I think people wanting to be something they are not is sad, Im white, my wife is latino, have black friends, and know quite a few asians as well,Ive never heard a single one of them desire to be something other than they are. Take michael jackson for instance i mean WTF would someone wanna go thru that, just to be a differant color, He might as well be an alien because he isnt white or black, he is wack!

A simple answer: Envy. Just because she's been down on her luck, she tries to find something to blame, and that something turns out to be her ethnicity. Then she starts to see all those sucessful white people on TV adn starts to think that the reason of their sucess is because of their "white"-ness. I am white but I'm not exactly sucessful, so...yeah.
