Better to wait until you get there and buy a few key pieces there. It will help you fit in there if you wear the type of clothing Germans are wearing. You will need a warm coat. You will need a couple of sweaters. You will need a couple of long sleeved shirts and trousers, as well as jeans. Buy a comfortable pair of black or brown shoes. No trainers. Like I said, buy these things after you arrive to add to your wardrobe to help you look as though you fit in. Like they say, "when in Rome, do as the Romans do". This applies to any place one goes.

First of all - welcome to Germany! I first came here as a student, and now have been (happily!) living here for 10 years!
Germany in July is summer, so it is relatively warm. That means you will need shorts, sandals, and tee-shirts. BUT - sometimes in the evening or in the morning it can get quite cold, so also bring warm things. The best thing is to have layers - for example in the morning wear jeans, a tee-shirt, a sweatshirt and a light jacket, then you can take off layers as it gets warm. Also, it rains quite a bit in the summer, so you may want to bring a rain jacket if you have one, or at least an umbrella.
You didn't say how long you are staying. If you stay through September - October or later, it will get very cold here, you will need real winter coat. But don't try to buy one in your country, it won't be warm enough! Wait until you get here, and either buy one in a department store or on eBay (that way you can save money!)
You ask for a list? How many of each item depends on how long you will stay and how much you have... but be sure to bring: shorts, jeans, long pants, tee-shirts, sweatshirts, sweaters, and at least one jacket (like a jeans jacket). Also bring tennis shoes / sneakers, and sandals, and if you want to go anywhere nice, a pair of nicer shoes as well. You should also bring a cap (like a baseball cap) becuase in the summer here it can get quite hot in the sun!
Have fun packing, and have a great time in Germany!

I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned an electrical CONVERTER! Unless you want your electronics to explode, this might be a good idea, lol. I am going to Germany for a second time in about 11 days and still haven't bought a second converter (which I recommend if you have a rechargeable digital camera and two individual batteries, or just have lots of things to charge). On the whole, clothes-wise, Germany is fairly temperate with moderate Summers and Winters around, so, most likely, you won't freeze to death or sweat to a puddle if aren't exactly prepared for the weather.

You have not mentioned which part of Germany you will be studying in.
The climate of Bavaria is similar to the climate of Austrian Alps, esp. of neighbouring Tyrol. Winters can be cold and with frequent snowfall. Germany's highest peaks and deepest valleys make for beautiful wintersports resorts. Since you have listed your question under Bavaria, I assume you are going to Bavarian Alps region. Its weather is as follows :-
Especially the south is famous for its warm foehn winds, which are notoriously blamed for everything from headaches to uncalled-for political changes. Those warm winds mostly occur in autumn and spring and account for dramatic temperature fluctuations
In case you are going to some other region of Germany, I give below a link where you can see weather conditions of the different regions of Germany

Leave the condoms at home. Virtually every billboard in this liberal's paradise has them advertised, so they will be readily available. Bring a watchdog for your money too because the government goes after every cent for its pathetic social agenda.
