gerry and the pacemakers originally.
when the beatles first single - 'love me do' - failed to make number one there was about six months when most of the industry pundits (disc jockeys, radio commentators) thought that gerry and the pacemakers were going to be the next big thing with the beatles an interesting seven day wonder.
they were wrong though.
....
there was a (never released) version by the beatles (not technically a cover since it pre-dates the pacemakers'), and another by the supremes.
neither is much good.
