Being in a relationship means the two of you should be on an equal plain. If he thinks he is above you or more important, then that equality does not exist and the relationship as a healthy union is done. Move on to greener fields before you invest anymore into this dead end.

He just cares more about himself than you two as a couple. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but it means when it comes down to it he is not going to choose you over anything important to him... your friend is right.
