Why is "Drivers Licence" called DRIVERS licence when I can start a car without one?

You don't need your driver's license for anything BUT driving. For all the rest, you could use a passport or state-issued ID. It's just that most people have DLs, so they make for a convenient form of ID.

You might not need a DL to *start* a car, but don't get caught driving one without it.
