I have been looking for saltpeter everywhere (drugstores and grocery stores mostly) and cannot find it!!! I heard it might be sold for meat curing. Does anyone have any info that could help me out or point me in the right direction to get some???

Yes it is used in curring meat(corned beef is salt and sodium nitrate (saltpeter)) Go to a druggist and ask (where the RX are filled) They use to sell it in grocery stores but it is a controlled substance now(explosive)

I thought Salt Petre was potassium nitrate?

If you are making black powder you may just blow your hand off. Getting the measurements correct and the grinding process can lead to an explosion.
