Without any intention of sounding mean or such like,in your line, you've said the person "claims". To me a claim does not necessarily mean the true and real position of issues.I can claim that I am the tallest man on earth; that does not make me to be so! If he/she claims then that's a good ground of not involving your emotions for hurt and disappointment will be sure places you'll trend. Peolpe who love each other have some capacity of accomondating one another's weaknesses or short-comings. For one, none is perfect as such there will always be something to work on or to change or even improve on.If one feels he/she has need of telling lies about the other, then know that the poor foundation of your relationship is getting exposed. You may disagree(between yourselves) but that doesn't justify the telling lies about another. Those who can't argue in a healthy way often quarrel and end up being revengeful.
It also displays a sense of insecurity on the part of whoever is doing that!!There may be a variety of causes but main in the list, hope has been said as I have passed on. I also take it that you are not being judgemental in your conclusion.

I really do not know . All i know is this they don't truely love you if they are doing this to you at all. They obviously are not who they say they are if they are lying about this person that they so call love! Could be insecurty or jealousy. But if you are not married to the person and they are doing this to you get out NOW and dump this person. If you are married then separate for a while and get help and seek marriage counseling. I would not stay with my husband if he was doing this . I would only go back to him if he stopped and if he got help for his problem as lying can turn into abuse and control issues later!

They enjoy the attention and power that telling those lies gets them, moreso than they enjoy (or desire) the love and respect of that other person.

they are insecure, scared for a loss, figure its better to get you before you get them, theres really tons and tons of reasons running thru there minds but theres one thing you can count on...they dont love you if there intentionally causing you pain.
