Well since the only answers so far have been a city & not a state I guess I should set a precedent. Of course, it all depends on what you like to see & do. Florida has some wicked awesome beaches & night life. Then again, so does California along with it's killer shopping & wine country. If you like the great outdoors, Utah has some of the most awesome natural rock formations on the continent. If you're the sportsman type and like hunting & fishing, Louisiana can't be beat and what with New Orleans back in gear you've got an awesome night life & great shopping with an elegant blend of the old world French style & deep south grace. Ultimately, it's up to you & your tastes.

New York is not all about NYC. The Adirondacks are the most beautiful mountains in the US and the finger lakes district is a world onto its own. Then there's Niagara Falls and lets not forget the St. Lawrence River. Come on, go to the City first, but then don't forget that the best is yet to come.

State: California. Why: There are so many things to do there that can fill everyone's expectations. You can go to the beach, the mountains and desert all in one day. You can go see forests and got to the big city all in one day. The list goes on, there's something for everyone there.

I'd say New York City. It's a brand by itself. There's no place like it in this planet :)
