Everyone will make their own decisions but smoking while pregnant is selfish. There are facts that smoking can harm the baby. So why risk it? Is it worth it? Some of the effects are not even physical. It can cause learning disabilities as well. And in this day and age who needs that. If you wouldn't play Russian roulette with your baby, why smoke? Same concept. Also, just because someone else's baby appears to be fine, does not mean that yours will be. Don't mean to come off harsh but no since in blowing sunshine and daisy's up your butt.

SMOKING IS VERY BAD FOR YOUR CHILD. It can cause cancer and besides Nicotin has 350 other more products that are very bad for your health now imagine the health of your soon to be born child. Also studies have shown that mothers who smoke during pregnancy,on the number of 100 kids have revealed
1) 75 picked up smoking later,
2)80 developped some cancerous illnesses at some point in their life
3) 50 allergy prone
4) 45 Weak immunity
5) 30 Damaged Dna or unusual Mutations of the genefond that causes defect when these kids give birsth to their own children
6) 67 Combination of 2 or 3 of the following above abnormalities or illnesses
The list is very insteresting and alarming but keep smoking on after all who would want you to stop for the sake of your kid since smoking is a very important urge whereas you future child is only ...well your future
What is very unfortunate to read here is that some people say my this and that did it and kids came out fine so the message is ok.Put this into a better context for you,Many people have accidents and some survive and some die .Does not mean you have to go an have an accident to know will you survive or not.

My sister smoked with both her first son (who is 3) and now her 2 day old baby girl. Her son is healthy but had a lot of illnesses in the first year. Her new baby girl seems healthy so far but was very small (5 lbs 10 ozs). But some problems could arise later for both children especially if they continue subjecting them to second hand smoke. She started second hand smoking around her son when he was about 9 months old since she had her own apartment and was still smoking in her apartment up until she had the new baby. They claim they won't smoke in the apartment now but we'll see how long that lasts.
Now, I quit 2 weeks before I conceived and started smoking when my son was about 2 months old. I only smoke in the garage or outside and I don't smoke in my car when he's with me. He has only been sick once in the past 2 1/2 years and that was a stomach flu.
So it's your choice, but I do think it is selfish to choose to smoke while you are pregnant or to subject your children to second hand smoke.

My mother-in-law smoked throughout pregnancy, and otherwise was healthy, ate good food and all, and all three of her kids appeared healthy as babies and toddlers.
But, since then, Kid One (age 27) has been diagnosed autistic, high blood pressure, infertility since at least age 20, developed asthma at age 10, has had pneumonia 4 times in the past 5 years, twice requiring hospitalization, and he has a hormone imbalance.
Kid Two (age 22) has ADHD, a thyroid condition, high blood pressure, and developed asthma at age 9, all requiring daily medication. She works part-time, and almost all her income is used to buy prescriptions, even with insurance. She's been hospitalized twice due to these conditions.
Kid Three (age 17) has ADHD, is bipolar, has high blood pressure, has a hormone imbalance, and developed asthma at age 9. He has a heart condition, that he was born with, that prevents him from playing sports or participating in Physical Education classes. He sees a cardiologist monthly, to the tune of $2500 a visit, and has been hospitalized three times in the past 2 years.
Now, I suppose any of this might not be due to the smoking, but none of these conditions runs in the family, and their doctors feel it's more likely that the smoking may be the culprit. So, a baby may appear healthy, or it may not, but either way there could well be lifelong effects.

My fiance's daughter just gave birth to her first child... a beautiful baby boy... he appears to be healthy at this point, but he was rather a wee little thing... only 5 lbs. 15ozs. Babies tend to be smaller than normal, when the mother smokes. I agree with it being high risk though. It is NEVER healthy to smoke during pregnancy... or ANY time.

I did(cut down during pregnancy though). My first was 7 lbs 15oz. My second was 9 lbs 6.5oz. My third 6lbs 7oz.He was smaller because I had a planned c-section and they did it 2 weeks before my actual due date. All my kids were born healthy and are very intelligent. I know people who did everything "right" and their kids were born with problems or developed problems later on. Everyone's circumstances are different, you can't always blame low birth weight and stuff on smoking.
Oh yeah! And I drank coffee too!!!lol

thats an oxymoron.....SMOKING does not equal HEALTHY for anything...any mother who did that too her unborn child is a very selfish woman....you didn't even let your baby get pure oxygen in the womb....you robbed the baby of some serious healthy lung cells all so you can get your "fix"
i had a classmate who was born in the shape of a capital U..because of her mothers smoking.......i believe a woman shouldnt be allowed to have a child if she smokes....it obvious that that woman doesn't give a damn about anybody but herself.

If you cut back, and switch to lights you'll be ok...my doctor advised me not to quit smoking because it adds stress on your body, and the baby....just smoke once in a while...and if you NEED to smoke everyday smoke under 5 a day...im 6 months pregnant and i smoke...my baby is fine and growing...my boyfriends mother smoked when she was pregnant and he was perfectly fine...a normal size baby...i know tons of people who smoked while being pregnant and their children are fine...so i would just cut back...good luck to ya

women that smoke while they are pregnant have babies that are premature or of low birth weight putting the baby at risk. Their babies also have a higher risk of cot death (SIDS) and more chance of other chest infections and asthma as children. they also have nicotine withdrawals at birth, every ciggie u have is like your unborn baby take a smoke them selves it flows into ur blood and straight into theirs. while a couple of ciggies may seem like nothing to you they have tiny bodies while they are developing and the level of toxins in their tiny body will be much greater then whats in yours. Not to mention the risks of cancers and lung disease and poor blood circulation and other birth defects. Give up its never too late and every ciggaret is doing you and your baby damage!
