I figure if everyone works just 4 - 8 hours a week, without taking pay, the jobs would get done and everything would be free.

If everything was free and made by robot there would be a premium on hand crafted products. And people would pay extra for this. Case in point, mass produced tesco food, vs expensive organic food. So then there would be a class difference between people getting free robot stuff, and the wealthy getting quality hand crafted. This means that if you wanted to be identified as a member of a higher class (and don't tell me this doesn't happen, this is why people buy SUVs, MacMansions etc) you would need to work to afford it.

In a sense this is what we already do. The option of dropping out, living on the dole, living in tiny council accomodation, buying all your food for 2 pounds a week from iceland is already here, so if all our worldy needs are available already so cheaply why do we work? Because we always want more.

Yes, I'd love to do something to help the system, especially if I like it. It would be even better, because then maybe usefulness would be the only concern of working people. Also, I would feel better, if I'm active.

Yes, I would work to help and work ON the system. Have you heard that in time, things will break down. Where's your backup?

Yes, I'd work about half time to keep it all running. But remember half of all work is now service industry rather than actually making stuff.

I would maintain the robots and design new ones, like i do now. but i imagine i would spend a lot more time in a virtual world, like world of warcraft.

No, because obviously there would be easier jobs and harder jobs, and still jobs requiring demanding skills and other jobs requiring no skill, so it wouldn't be fair, as some people would still have to work their butt off, maybe not physically but mentally, and others would not. It would not work.

If you didn't work, everyone would get the same sort of money. There would be no class system - it would be terrible
