They should change the name to 'for stupid people only'
Many yeas ago I had a friend who worked as a CSO and manning the help desk. She had a customer calling up and shouting at her telling her that the handheld computer game was not working. She went thru the steps involved for troubleshooting and after almost 45 minutes of him getting angrier by the minute, it hit her than this was one major stupid guy. She finally told him, after much shouting, cussing and threats, from him, to try one last trick-at the left hand side of the console, there is this on/off switch, and to try it. It worked. The IDIOT had not turn it on! LOL

I work in customer service as well, and I can truely feel your pain.
While some mistakes are honest, most customer service complaints arise from new customers that didnt bother to read all the requirements of something before they signed up for it. Even if you tell them when they sign up that they will continue to recieve this service (and be charged) they think they can take the trial gift and price and forget it. Then they call in months later wanting to know why they are getting further shipments and billed to credit cards. Most of them lie about it because they dont want to admit they didnt care enough to call and cancel.
Although with banks they change the rules a lot and sometimes the updates are a little hard to understand. I had an account for over 20 years that had no minimum balance. Then the bank got bought out and they suddenly started charging me a fee for not having a minimum balance. So mistakes can be made on both sides.

Why do stupid people work in Customer Service? "My computer is frozen & I've worked 2 days on it & can't fix it. What can be done?" C.S. for HP Comp. in India: "Oh, I can feex it right now please....do as I say...." Click click click. "There! good as new! Thanks for calling HP" A few clicks & my entire system was wiped out & cleared of all precious photos, documents, forms, internet connections, etc. This really happened, plus I was charged $40 for the stupid service! Calling any Customer Service Rep is a last resort for me because I have had so many bad experiences with CS. I recently contacted AT&T with a computer connection problem & was completely happy with their Customer Serv. Rep.. But, that is rare.
I'm sure that there are a lot of dumb people who call CS. However, they call because they need help & are probably not smart enough to figure things out. Thats why there is a need for Customer Service people, like yourself, who can look past our ignorance & give us the help we are paying for.
By the way, my wife & I went into our bank & with the help of a Customer Service person, had a stop payment made on a single electronic transaction by a local gym. It was discovered a few days later that ALL of our electronic transactions were being bounced by the bank, due to the error of the Customer Service person. The cost & aggrevation was huge!

My bank began charging me to call Customer Service. Why would I call if I was smart enough to know the answer?
This is by far the most idiotic question I've seen on Yahoo Answers. Who, in your opinion, should call Customer Service?
Only people with answers to the questions they're about to ask?
Come on! These are your customers. Your job. Your responsibility. Watch who you're calling an "idiot".

Hon,
I hate to tell you this, but this is your job! As a customer service agent, your JOB is to service the cusotmer and I HOPE you don't treat them unkindly. I know it's amazing just how many stoopid people there are out there but, remember: not all of them have been as blessed as you with a superior intellect.. So, try and be a bit more patient.. or, you may find that these idiots will be calling your boss.. and you'll be calling around, too.. looking for a job!

Oh my God... I know what you mean. I did customer service for a call center too and you really can't believe how stupid people are and they get mad at you because of it. Tech problems are the worst. Sh*t a third grader could figure out many people don't know how to do. It's very funny too because you know that people that have money spend money and so many are educated with college degrees but don't know how to navigate a f*cking computer or figure out simple problems when the answer is in their face. You have to have the patience of a saint sometimes. That's why I don't do it anymore.

Reasonable humans is not going to try this to you. As a "caller," i will be able to have an understanding of the frustration the patrons think. When we've lost cash and repair, we believe ripped off and are upset about it. I you should be as well mannered as viable, however I do get upset when i am told that there is nothing that you are able to do about it. I consider that there's at all times something you are able to do about it. I i'm instructed you can not do whatever, I take it as you are not willing to do whatever, and despite the fact that it probably coverage, when 1000s of my dollars are on the road, I cannot support however get emotional, but at most I get slightly organization. The examples you supply are from people that aren't worth the stress. Just take it, and chuckle about it afterword. I am a former server and bartender, and i have continuously had a good snigger at rude consumers.

That's because all of the smart ones were able to figure it out without having to call.
Wow, I don't think I could do your job.
But I guess every profession has it's share of idiots walking through the door.
My favorite was the person who worked at the dollar store who was complaining about people constantly asking "How much is this?"
