I did the same thing for the 1st few weeks my son was born. I absolutely could not sleep! I called my doctor & he told me to take benadryl. I did that for a few weeks & managed 4 hours of sleep a night!!! Which is alot when you have a newborn...lol...I did have my hubby there to help me also...if you live alone you may want to ask a parent or friend to come stay with you & help for a few weeks & try the benadryl...it was a life saver for me!!! Best of luck. God bless. : )

I have the same problem! For me, the simplest thing is to focus my mind on a happy thought or two- sometimes it's a cheerful song (Yellow Submarine is good and rythmic), sometimes it's naming, in my head, all the good things about my son, my husband, my life, or whatever (counting my blessings, so to speak).
As for the baby waking up just as you get to sleep... keep reminding yourself that it won't always be like that. HANG IN THERE!!!!!! Also, if you can, have your partner, a relative, or a friend come over during the day and keep an eye on the baby while you catch a nap. It's amazing what a couple of hours of sleep can do when it's complete and not the one-eye-one-ear-open kind! My mother and mother-in-law did this for me several times, and it really was a life-saver. The baby's asleep, so she won't likely need anything for a couple hours, but with someone else to watch her sleep, you can get some shut-eye of your own.

I went through the same thing so I know what you mean. I was so worried about different things (SIDS being #1). The only thing I know to tell you is to just give it time and you'll eventually get out of it, mainly because you'll get so exhausted you won't have a choice but to sleep when the baby sleeps. I know it is hard. Is there someone that will keep the baby (at another place) while you take a few hours to kind of catch up every now and then? We eventually done that.

The excitement and worry of having a newborn is sometimes overwhelming but you will soon settle down and be surprised how easy it gets. Until then just try to rest when you can even if it means dozing while you are rocking her, don't worry you won't Drop her. If you are still having trouble sleeping after a few weeks talk to your doctor when you are in for your check up, she will be sure to have some ideas for you, remember women have been having this problem forever your dr. won't laugh at you.

I had the same kind of problem when my daughter was a baby. I found the solution was...a Grandma LOL. During the day, when I'd be really sleepy..I'd hand her over to my Mom, and sleep for a couple of hours. I usually couldn't sleep for more than that anyway, cause I loved to hold her and kiss her all the time.

Exactly... whoever said so..."sleep whenever the baby does" probably didn't have one!
Well its not actually possible to sleep as soon as ur baby does but u need to take rest. Prioritise and share ur work so that u'll feel less burdened. If possible have some extra help.

i have been there i know its rough, how old is your baby. mine is 3mo. now. Eventually the exostion will take over and it will be easy to sleep but that doesn't last for long. try to find something that helps you clear your mind, for example i would turn on my daughters music box and concintrate on the music then after a few minutes all i could think about was how beautiful is was and it was much easier to sleep.
