It depends what you are applying for. If it is for credit, they will usually check databases to verify the information you give, but if it is for employment, especially for government or high profile jobs they will send letters, phone calls, etc. to the names that you list and may ask questions of the person you list on the form. I have been asked questions of someone applying for a high profile position of his employment with us and they also asked many personal questions about him.

No they do not. They get your address through the credit check. How they get it is that when you apply for a credit card you need to put your address down. When the company who is doing the background check wants to find all that out they just contact one of the major credit check company's like Experian and that is how they get all that necessary information.

No, I'm sure they don't have time to send mail to the address listed. Public records, social security nunber, credit bureaus, former employers, drivers license,and run a criminal check in the cities of residence.

They check the addresses... the addresses are used to obtain verification that you are the person that lived there that did a certain thing... or used a certain card. That is all the addresses are good for... except in some cases of credit... they may call appartment complexes to verify your statments with them... but generally this won't happen.

no. they check the public records for criminal violations. they check with the three major credit bureaus in the USA for credit history.
