I filed a police report, and they have the guy who stole it on survelance, but it doesnt seem like they will catch him, and I had my cell phone, money, and my drivers license in it. is there any way I can get my stuff back, or at least money back for what was stolen? Do you think the guy who stole it will come to my house since he has my address now? I am very scared that he will.

i had the same thing happen to me recently and let me tell u both people were on survelance. the cop got both names and them doing it in several diff places. unfortunatly there is not one thing they did about it. the detective told me that nothing is going to be done about people like this because not enough people in america are standing up and making this into a "real issue" so there for people just go on like this problem does not exist. the best thing to do is to notify all the credit bueros, keep ur police report just in case he happens to sell ur info to some one who impersonates you to steal your identity, keep harassing the police offier who took the report. call his/her captain at the police station and demand that action be taken. which for the most part nothing will be done. i talked to the da's office and they said they do not handle this sort of thing and the people should have been arrested. there is not much to be one unless the cops want to get off their butts and arrest him. further more i would call your local senator. try to get people to start writting letters demanding the police to do more about this serious issue. good luck and take care.

My first worry would be to cancel the credit and debit cards. You should call a locksmith and have all your locks re-keyed. the thief might even be looking to steal your car! If the police have him under surveillance then you should be safe. You could ask them to alert the patrols in your area to be on the watch for anything unusual at your house. These are the best ways to keep the thief out. I would try contacting the DMV and tell them your Driver's License was stolen and ask them for advice, like can they give you a new number?

I don't think you will get your stuff back, especially your money and the cell phone. Most thieves like to dispose of them quickly, and they are very hard to trace. I would call your cell phone carrier and cancel the account. But first, you could try calling the number and sees who is answering it (I would do that around 4 A.M. just to be sure to wake them up). You could offer a reward for it, but meet them in a public place, like the mall near a police station annex.

To prevent this from happeing again:
Get some mace so you can at least tag the next purse thief. If you give him a good shot then he may show up at the hospital. Of course it is not so good if you keep it in your purse.
Finally I would look for a Notebook Computer Alarm, or a Child Alarm. The Targus lets you lock it to the purse and keep a seperate bob, you could wear the bob on a laynard around your neck. When your purse is stolen the alarm sounds and the thief is most likely to drop it. The child alarm has a bob inside your purse, and one you wear (you may want to sew the bob to the inside of your purse). Like with the Targus it sounds an alarm when the purse leaves your presense. You can set the distance too.

The only way to get your things back is if the person tells the police where they are or someone else finds them. In any event you may be able to ask that the person who stole your merchandise be made to pay restitution for his crime when going to court. You can ask the police how that may work. In the meantime cancel any credit cards, call the company for your cell phone and call the registry about your license to alert them of the theft.

I feel bad for you that you have suffered the loss of your purse, and personal possessions, including your identity.

Since you have filed a police report, then the person they are studying is an alleged suspect, until they have enough evidence to apprehend him and charge him with a crime, and criminals are generally very stupid, and almost always get caught.

Secondly purse snatchers are cowards by nature, and only wish to keep your money, therefor I believe there is very little chance that he will even attempt to come to your home, however you can request the police to drive by your home until you feel more at ease, and that is there job, to protect and serve.

If your local police refuse your request I personally would like to know about it, and I will help you get action.

Lastly as far as your reimbursement for your stolen money, you are a victim of a crime, and your local police department also may help you here, as there are programs to aid victims of crimes, you may wish to talk to the chief of police about that matter, or perhaps possibly if you have a good home owners insurance policy they may help you.

Explore all avenues, and I am sure you will find help, also local churches may aid you in your time of need, and please do not feel embarrassed to explain to them your situation, there entire function is to do the Lords work, and you yourself are Gods child.
also I do know that you will get your things back, If the police can recover your purse, or the items, if not then you will have to apply for new forms of identification, and please notify credit card and debit card company's as soon as possible.

I hope this helps you :)

Are you saying you had house keys in your purse also? In that case, have your door locks changed asap. And if car keys were also in there, park your car a little way off until you can change the lock in that, too. Get a hold of your cell phone company, credit card companies, bank and the DMV to let them all know right away, also. Sit down and make a list of everything else in your wallet you might need to follow up on...when you have time, you might think of other things. He probably won't come to your house, though...purse snatch 'n grabbers mostly want quick cash. Good luck.

Man that must be scarry for you. More than likely though if he stole your purse he just wanted the money out of it. But if you are scarred to stay at home go stay with your parents or see if you can bunk with your friends till they catch the guy. I don't think there is any way to get your money back, not unless the guy is caught with it on him and it's still in your wallet. Good luck to you. Hope everything works out.

You are wise to be on guard. Be extra careful around your place, when you go in and out and when you answer your door.
I believe most thieves just want the money or credit cards, but be careful. Notify the credit card companies, the cell phone company, and get your drivers license replaced.
I don't think you'll get the money back. I doubt you have insurance for that, but you can ask if you have homeowners' insurance.
Good Luck!

Unfortunately, you will probably never see your cash, again. As for your cards and cell phone, be sure and report them as stolen ASAP. This person is probably not interested in going to your home, they probably just wanted $$$. Talk to the police and then to people in your life in whom you trust about your feeling and they can help you. Also, "Pray" to the "The Good Lord" for protection, assurance and security. He loves you and is always there for you.

I would change my locks and be very vigilant about strangers in the area. I would contact the phone company as they may be able to track the phone. If not, then you need to have it canceled. Also cancel any credit cards or debit cards. You also need to let your bank know reguardless. You should watch for new credit being taken out under your name (any good credit service should be able to help with how to do this) I wouldn't freak out about them coming to your home too much but simply be alert.
