dell has good deals for a little over 600$
- try the inspirion range
both the inspirion E1505 & E1405 are priced 699
-- just wait 4 few days, hopefully better deals on these two should be on dell site

try eBay for slightly used or brand new ones - just make sure the source of purchase is credible
or Best Buy - look for products with rebates - we got a Sony VAIO there 2 years ago and received US$250 back a few weeks later and they have every brand available under the sun...it's an electronics geek haven...all the people there will help you with your purchase.
additionally, if you want a value for money laptop and not into brand names a good tip is get a genric brand or not known brand - you will find good ones - which can perform as well as the branded ones - again on eBay and Best Buy.
hope this helps.

Wait for special deals at Dell by using the following sites:
http://www.techbargains.com/
http://bensbargains.net/
http://www.fatwallet.com/
Dell also tends to have better deals at quarter ends, before they need to post earnings.

try dell , if you want your battery to last longer then consider something with a smaller screen, like 14 inch, and intel centrino is best for best battery consumption. and be prepare to add more memory, save some time and order one with at least 1gb of memory so you don't have to do it yourself later.
