We are more inclined to like a value a statement made by some one we like. If we dislike the person we tend to dislike most things about them especially their opinions. Opinions are verbalized most of the time, so we dislike what they say. Along they same lines, if a person you did'nt know committed a not so serious crime ( shoplifting, etc. ) we would think less of that person. If it were our parents or siblings, we would statr justifying why they are not so bad.

You'd have to be a lot more specific. But generally speaking, tone, inflection, regional accents & dialects, emphasis and pace all have to do with how information is heard. Plus, we "hear" more from people who are "like us" than we do from outsiders.
An attractive person may more easily capture your attention, on the other hand, you can be too busy looking at their face & body to listen to them. Also, eye contact big key.
