Assuming you have Windows IE, I think you can go to the Control Panel,
click on "Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices.
Then in the box, find and select "New Mail Notification".
Below it select the Sound you want.
Click OK to save.

My speakers don't work; I can't test it for you.

(I don't know how it works with Yahoo!.)

Do you just want a "beep" or something like that?

If you are using Microsoft Outlook:

Go to Tools

Go to Options

Go to Preferences.

Go to Email Options

Go to Advanced Email Options

You should be able to do a number of alerts on there. Such as an audible beep, having your cursor change and I think you can even have a little window pop up as well for a second or two.

It all depends on what you are using. You can probably also look it up under "help" tab at the top of the page.

Sure there is - have Yahoo Messenger open and it will make a sound and show a message on the bottom right hand side of your screen.
