It is very seldom enforced, but it is called "Verbal Assault" and it can be prosecuted. It normally gets dropped for sake of other charges that are bigger. The best thing to do when someone is being verbally belligerent towards you is nothing. Give them no response at all and don't do anything for them. If they ask why, tell them. Sooner or later they get the hint or go somewhere else.

It all depends where you are. There are local ordinances that deal with these issues differently from town to town and cities, states, etc. At a cop's discretion, you could easily get hit with a disorderly conduct for swearing at anyone (at least here in Milwaukee, WI). Notwithstanding the Golden Rule, good judgement would dictate that you should genuinely show respect for another person in much the same way you would expect him or her to respect you (even if that person doesn't seem to respect you, swearing only helps to aggrevate the situation anyway, which could be interpreted by a cop and subsequently by a judge as conduct that is "disorderly").

It depends on whether you language is derogatory, obscene, or otherwise abusive.

You could be thrown in jail for resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, public indecency, public lewdness, disturbing the peace , and any number of other charges the officer may come up with and the district attorney may choose to enforce. You ave a right to peacefully assemble and express your views. Content is protected, but; obsenity is governed by the cities you are in so the answer to both questions is "Yes".

It's not inherently illegal because it falls under the protections of free speech, but there is fine line that might be crossed by a careless free speecher :) and it also defies good judgment and maturity to do it in the first place. Better to try to find a way to support law enforcement.

To a normal person, no. Unless you're in court.

To a cop, depends on the situation. I would not advise it during a traffic stop. You can probably get away with it during a town hall meeting.

As long as you do not threaten them, it is not illegal. It isn't decent, but it isn't illegal either.
