Well, I've been away from my 5 best friends for about 2 (almost 3) years &, so far, it's one of the hardest things I've ever had to do...

I left my home country (Cape Verde) to come live in the US...& the day I left was the saddest day of my life...It felt (& still does) like I lost a huge chunk of my own self...

My best friends & I have known each other since we were about 3 years old (which means that we've known each other for about 14 years now) & always lived in the same street...we used to do EVERYTHING together...wherever you saw one of us you'd be sure to see the other 5...we had the most beautiful relationship (we went on field trips almost every weekend; we used to throw lots of parties; we used to go to each other's family's beach houses regularly, etc.) , but since I moved, things have changed a lot!!!!

Although we keep in touch with each other, it's just not the same...I feel sad all the time because now I have no friends (nearby) and spend my days either @ work, @ school and/or @ home (which is totally not me)

I used to be really active, but now I really don't do much (just so you have an idea, I've never been to the movies nor to the beach here in the US, & things that I once enjoyed are just not as fun as they used to be)...but whenever I feel sad I think of the good times my friends and I had together...& although sometimes it makes me feel even sadder that I'm not with them, most of the time it works...

I'm planning on going on vacation next year, but we'll see...

But you know, my being away from my friends & living in a totally different place has helped me realize how good of a life I used to have as well as it has helped me appreciate all the ppl in my life...

Usually if I'm having a bad day or am feeling angry at the world, I like to be alone and listen to sad/depressing music. For some reason, I like to dwell on things and feel sorry for myself. But before long, I have to face the world. And I usually want to make other people happy so I get over whatever I'm upset about! Or, I at least talk to people who can cheer me up.

Get busy, there are many positive things you can do with your day. Read a good book, phone another friend & go out. Help somebody you think needs your help- you'll feel better after. Your life doesn't revolve only with a friend.

Call them on the phone ... or if you have Instant Messenger it feels good to chat with them online ... also planning to see them some time in the near future can ease that ache in your heart ... I know it has helped me when someone I cared about was in another state ... It felt good knowing that I was going to see them again on a certain date ... it makes time go by faster too :o)
Cheer up ... I'm sorry you're hurting.

I like to go outside and take a walk, enjoying the scenery. Reading books, drawing, writing in a journal, etc can be fun things when you are lonely.

well you can write your friend and keep in contact with her.. but just find something to keep you busy.. something you are interested in doing.. also you can meet more friends ...it may take some time but you will have more sadness in your life probably and we just have to take one day at a time and do the best we can...but i think it is best just to stay active and busy and then time heals almost all things.. or least dulls it some...

As my love died, in my sadness, I opened my mind to all positive input, so my prayers for strength were granted and I turned my attention to work and accomplished more.
Accidents befell me and I became ill, but I asked for strength and guidance and surmounted these things.for the time being.
