Just because you are light skinned or biracial does not mean that you are automatically better or more attractive than dark skinned Black people. It should not matter, but unfortunately it does. This attitude is left over from our slave history. Slave masters often placed a higher value on lighter skinned slaves; they believed that such slaves had to be smarter and more attractive because they were mixed with white. You still see this attitude carried out in our society today. That doesn't mean you have to accept this attitude. Celebrate ALL shades of Blackness. I hate that we as Black people are even still discussing this issue in the twenty-first century. Isn't it time that we stop letting other people dictate to us what is beautiful or attractive about our own people?

The whole concept of light skin versus dark skin all stemmed from slavery when the light skin were the chosen ones to work in the big house. So the lighter you were or the more white you looked, the more accepted you become, but none the less still a slave. This has passed down from generation to generation, I believe that has changed a great deal in the black community, but as far as whites, it still applies.

Men are considered "handsome". Women are beautiful.
When I was a young child in the seventies, I noticed that light skinned men would get most of the girls.
Even many of the the "not so handsome" light skinned guys had a better chance of getting girls than us darker skinned good looking guys.
That made me feel that I was not as handsome as they were.
In the eighties, the tide started to change. Light skinned guys were given negative names like "piss colored", and us darker men were given positive names "milk chocolate" and "pretty brown".
Today, many women will not deal with light skinned men because they feel that light skinned men are too stuck up.
So, for the moment, dark is in.
The truth is: beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you love yourself inside and out, it wouldn't matter what complexion you or anybody are. Ask Westley Snipes...
No offence intended. Mr.Snipes

Its a stereotype that tries to put blacks against blacks. It doesn't matter what your color is light or dark, your black. We as black people don't need to waste our time trying to single our own race out because they are not the color that others think they should be which is crayon color brown. I think all shades of the african american race is beautiful.

I don't care what your skin tone is, as long as you're not an asshole, you're fine with me.
