You may be thinking of Katherine Dunham the beautiful timeless dancer who DID pass away recently. She was truly legendary, a philanthroper, anthropologist, composer, dancer...extraordinary!!

no, Judith is alive & well & is still the Artistic Director of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
the Diva-Goddess that is now dancing with the ancestors is Madam Katherine Dunham (i will be writing a tribute to her in an upcoming blog on my 360 page real soon, so stay tuned).
