My niece has been complaining that her right wrist is hurting her. "Sharp pains like knives are stabbing". She can't grip anything and pressure hurts her.

She says this all started about a month ago after she did cartwheels. She has visited the school nurse a few times and they just put an ace bandage on it and sent her on her merry little way.

What could possibly be wrong with her wrist? I realize that a visit to the doctor should be done, but my parents just don't have the finances right now.

Any suggestions?

ma'am, you really should have your niece's wrist x-rayed. There are several small bones in the wrist that could be fractured from the contact with the ground doing the cartwheels. The problem with the finances is a different one. Here, in my state, there is some help with financhially disadvantaged kids; the insurance is called ALL-KIDS, which is put out by Blue Cross. Also, there may be some help group that could help to defray the cost.

I'm not really sure but I know that if pains like that last longer than 2 weeks than a doctors visit is needed. I realize they are expensive but she really needs to see a doctor or at least call one. It could be something with the nerves. Good luck.

Sounds like she may have a pinched nerve. Best to go to the doctor and get it x-rayed just to see if there is a fracture as well.

there could be a bone fracture on the wrist area. I suggest to have an orthopedic doctor to look at it.

She probably sprained it... I did it snowboarding, and it didnt get better for a while. If she broke it, then she wouldnt be able to move her wrist or fingers. I hope she Feels better!!
