much like African Americans?
http://yennadon.sd42.ca/online/socials/Chinatown/slaves.html

And for that matter, should the Native Americans have a History Month dedicated to them since they were here first?

I am just asking because this other guy on here is so angry about why people would question the whole concept of a month dedicated to one race. Why not celebrate and educate all cultures and races all year long?We are the melting pot of the world after all.

Oh please! That argument could be used for about any race, ethnic history, and national identity.Everyone has a ethnic, cultural, and religious history that has been forever altered by injustice's and changes if you look far enough back in time. And because of this many of us don't truely know where we originally came from with certainty either.I don't even know which people with my last name are related to me and which aren't.So spare me the "my people" speech. If you're so thristy for getting back to your roots try moving to Africa and getting back to them. There isn't anything stopping you and you have as much rights here now as anyone else and are treated as equally in all aspects.

"I think you would be pissed too if your family sweated & worked their @$$*$ off to be the structure & backbone of an enterprise and got no credit for it in the end. "

Hate to break it to you, but my family did contribute to this nation's structure and had a hand in freeing your ancestorsNo member of my family ever owned slaves and they were abolitionists. So your beef is not nor can not be with me.Especially considering my generation and yours most likely as well, has not lived in those days.Cry me a river of tears when YOU are mistreated. Not your ancestors.Otherwise I will cry a river of tears for my Celtic ancestors who were inslaved and whose country was invaded by the Roman's.It may have taken place a lot longer ago but, who cares?Right? So should I have a Celtic history month? How about Native Americans? They were here first and their blood paved the way for this nation to be formed.Give them a month!

With the average accepted number of 192 countries in the world, there are NOT enough months in the year to honor every country and the various cultures therein who have contributed to the advancement of our country.

I agree with you, we need to celebrate the achievements of all people all year long.

I think you would be pissed too if your family sweated & worked their @$$*$ off to be the structure & backbone of an enterprise and got no credit for it in the end. Forced to live a life that you weren't accustomed to and be beaten or killed because you rebelled against those conditions? Be forced to forget your roots and culture, even your family name? It is easy to say that those things are in the past, forget them. But do you know how haunting it is for some of us just knowing that we have another name somewhere, that we may be passing family members on the street and not know them or even marrying them, because someone else took that away from us & there is no way to trace it? This is what Our Month is for, to remember those that we can, and to help us keep those names and memories fresh for our children, we have already lost too much. And please tell me where in America were the Chinese enslaved? I know that they were ridiculed and treated as outcasts, even killed, because they were dispensable, because they were 'different', and being different in America is like having the plague, we all know about that. I don't believe that history can show that any other race has gone through what we have in "your" country. There is a saying that those who forget history are destined to repeat it. We won't want that now, would we?

My God, enough already, should my pit bull have a special day because his name and breed have been brought here and slandered? Come on I know the Jack A** you are referring to. I commented on his question also. I agree with you. I wasn't here in the times of slavery and I am not responsible for anyone's actions but my own. This is what is wrong with this country now. All along our ancestors have been F'n up and we are still paying for it all. Why did we drop the bomb on Hiroshima and then start sending them money? Why make an action and then try and re-pay for it? I wish these people would get a life and get over it.

the chinese would probably laugh and reject it because they are smart enough to realize that having a Chinese history month, or a Miss Chinese America, or a Chinese-American Music Award show is ridiculous. the Chinese know the way to succeed in america and it has nothing to do with any of this feel-good crap.

Why don't we all just be Americans and celebrate that?

When you pick a group and make a special holiday for them, that just alienates everyone else. It just makes people mad and ask, well why don't they make one for me! What's so special about them?

If we're a melting pot, we should just melt into Americans and not have special months set aside for different cultures.

That kind of thing divides us, it doesn't unite us.

I agree that we should celebrate the histories of all nationalities. I'm not sure I think a whole month is best though, because we would soon run out of months to use. LOL

We should just get rid of special treatment among different cultures all together and celebrate under one flag -- the American flag.

God Bless America and nowhere else!

Time is to everyone. You might consider one month to your own.Even in that case, others would still have twelve months. It's only different to you, or special, or important. That's the same thing we Chinese do.We consider one month to be Chinese Month to memory something important or special to us.You might just treat it as June ,July or something else.If you are lucky during this month, you can named it Lucky Month. It's up to you.

Why Chinese? Do we Japanese get our month? Not many of us were slaves, but we were kept in internment camps and face a lot of discrimination.
